I want to thank everyone for taking the time to reply. I am sorry to see that so many others have run into situations much like the one I described. I'll certainly skip the desire to be "helpful" in cases like this from now on.

Yeah... most of the people in this game are idiots - you try to help and they tell you off. Or aren't thankful at all when they requested the help. Pisses me off though, but eh, mob mentality is hard to change.

That's generally what we end up doing. A few friends of mine were ABing and some guy started to insult them; the dude took it in PM with one of the team after the AB and started spamming my friend... who released the name in AC.

We got him banned.

It was so funny though! He even whispered me after his ban to start insulting me again. I just took the superior attitude with him, considered reporting him again but I figured that he wasn't being as abusive or spammy. Just gave him the old long-words-that-scare-small-minds talk and ignore listed him.

But seriously, this is something I've noticed about GW. You can't say that nobody new is willing to listen or accept help. Because yes, often they will tell you what to sit on and how many degrees to rotate through for offering expertise or help, but at least 50-60% of new players WILL listen.

Example? I did a 5 man? Oro farm a while ago..2 of my friends were going so I monked for them. The Ele was a really great guy (said he'd been playing for about a month and a week), but had a pretty bad build. So we offered to help him. We spent about 2 hours with him, talking and explaining what's good and bad, and what's expected of an ele. We gave him a few plat and he re-runed his armour. He was very grateful, and I have since played with him (although I didn't realise at first who he was) in a FoW clear, and he did brilliantly well.

And if you get just one person like that, then it sort of makes up for the 2-3 idiots with vomit for brains that have irked you. I'd say don't give up on being helpful, don't go sit on your cloud and think how great you are and how much everyone else sucks. Keep trying to help because it does and will pay off, even if not every time. Only quitters quit...

Yeah, i try to help people when i can, but it can be a pain in the butt sometimes.

I ran into this newbie in Cavalon the other day.
Newb: "Hey, what are luxon totems?? What do i do with them??"
Me: "Give them to the quartermasters for stuff"
Newb: "Really. what's a quartermaster?"
Me: "They're like the monastery credits and imperial coms."
Newb: "Oh i have a bunch of those. What are they?"
Me: "Turn them into quartermasters in monastery and kaineng"
Newb: "monastery? where's the monastery?"
Me: "wiki it. gotta go"
Newb: "Wiki?? wat that mean?"

At this point I was sorry i ever stopped to answer a simple question.

I just don't get it. Why would you think someone would buy a Runescape account on Guild Wars?

GW beats RS by a long shot... So why bothering wasting your time?
people are stupid sometimes. But most of the time the RS account sellers are age 10-12... exactly why he told you "where to go and what to suck".

just 1 question I've never played runescape (and never intend to) but is it as bad as everyone says ?

if you like attempted 3D graphics, although they look 2D.
if you like complainy children that are and under the age of 13.
if you like a completely screwed up trade system (as friends have told me).
if you like even worse elitism than in GW...

Beats me, but if you spend enough time in the busier towns, you will see people trying to sell runescape accounts. I haven't seen it as often lately though. I don't even know what exactly runescape is, but I have seen the spam from time to time.

Nothing against GW TOS against doing it as far as I know though.

Only an idiot tries to buy/sell an account in game. If they are trying to sell, they can either scam, or be scammed EASY. If they are buying, same thing.

/report, and move on.

Yup, report and move on... I usually test if its a trial account before reporting though.

Trial accounts cant use the trade system. Walk up to the spammer and open a trade window.

If it dosnt work you will get a message telling you that it is a trial account and can not trade. No point in reporting them, because in less than 10 hours the spammer will be on a new Trial account.

If the trade window opens (or you get the message this player is already trading) you can cancel trade... feel free to report a banable spammer

This guy probably didn't care if it was against the ToS as a lot of people could care less about it.
